LAG-4 assembly process

Designing and manufacturing an aircraft is only part of the journey. Once every component is produced, the real challenge begins: bringing everything together into a reliable and flight-ready system. For LAG-4, the assembly process requires careful planning, precision, and countless hours of testing to ensure every part functions as intended.

Structure first

The process begins with installing the carbon-fiber wing spar and mounting the wings to the fuselage. Once the primary structure is complete, the horizontal and vertical stabilizers are aligned and secured, ensuring the aircraft maintains the correct aerodynamic geometry.

Propulsion and avionics

Next comes the installation of the propulsion and avionics systems. The motor, electronic speed controller (ESC), power distribution system, servos, GPS module, flight controller, telemetry radio, and onboard computer are all mounted in their designated locations. Great care is taken to route cables cleanly and securely, minimizing electrical interference while keeping maintenance simple.

With the hardware installed, the team calibrates every subsystem individually. Control surfaces are centered and tested, sensor orientations are verified, and the flight controller is configured before moving on to ground testing. Multiple power-on inspections and fail-safe tests are performed to ensure every electronic component responds correctly under different operating conditions.

Cleared for first flight

Finally, the aircraft undergoes a complete pre-flight inspection. The center of gravity is adjusted, control surface deflections are measured, and every structural connection is checked one final time. Only after successfully completing these inspections is LAG-4 cleared for its first flight.

Although the assembly phase often receives less attention than manufacturing or flight testing, it remains one of the most critical stages of any UAV project. Careful assembly and thorough verification ensure that every hour spent designing and manufacturing the aircraft translates into safe, reliable, and successful flights.
